Dear Friends of the Society,
Summer 2023 was by all accounts a stand-out summer! Attendance at the Museum was at an all-time high with museum goers praising the exhibits and the depth of the information of Three Lakes and its history. One family, after touring the Museum, claimed it to be “an incredible gem and a must see for everyone who loves Three Lakes!” Our concerts, fundraisers and new programs were met with lots of enthusiasm and rave reviews.
Thank you to everyone who joined or renewed their membership this year, and everyone who donated to the general fund and our new programs. If you have not had an opportunity to give or you would like to add to your past donation we have several projects that need your help in funding.
Landscaping: Our main objective for the new landscaping plan is to complete the accessibility and attractiveness of the museum facilities begun when we added the new Visitor Center as part of the Demmer Library remodeling. The landscaping, while creating a town green like setting in front of the Johnson House, will include a picket fence, a sodded lawn, defined parking and will direct museum visitors to the Visitor Center before entering the museum buildings. We have a bid from a local landscaping company for $4000.
Fortunately we have a generous donor who has offered us a challenge in the form of a matching grant of $2000.00! So please help us in raising $2000.00 so that we will qualify for the matching grant.
Tell Us Your Stories: Much like the original founders of the Historical Society did when compiling family history for The Pine, The Plow and the Pioneer books, we are reaching out to longtime families to update their stories and to newer arrivals and visitors for their stories, which will help us write the story of Three Lakes today. The project is projected to cost $1000-$1500 for administrative, technology, and marketing needs.
The Johnson House: As many of you have observed, this historic building is badly in need of an exterior facelift. The foundation needs work as well as some of the wood siding. All of the windows need attention and the entire building needs to be scraped and painted. This project is projected to cost in the $20,000 range.
Membership and Donations: Utilities, staffing, building & exhibit maintenance, insurance, programming and technology are items paid for out of the general fund. Your donations are essential to keeping the Historical Society & Museum a vital part of the cultural offerings in Three Lakes. With expenses of $40,000 a year, your membership and donations are what keeps the lights on and the doors open!
The Historical Society & Museum is completely supported by donors & members, we depend on you to fund our important initiatives (and keep the lights on!)
Your support is necessary in moving the Historical Society & Museum forward to serve the needs of all current and future Three Lakes residents and visitors. We welcome your feedback on things you would like to see us include in future plans and other projects you would like to see included in our donor list.
